The Drought, Biodiversity and Climate Presentation

March 1, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The presentation will be by Andy Hrycyna of Mystic River Watershed Association and Jim Laurie of Biodiversity For A Livable Climate.

The focus of the presentation will begin with the effects of the drought on the watershed then proceed to the big picture beginning from the perspective of loss of biodiversity. This includes degradation of the soil from different causes, leading to loss of water and carbon retention. Biodiversity affects the water cycle and the carbon cycle which affects the climate which comes back around to affect biodiversity. Not as prominent as the effort on carbon reduction but just as devastating in its impact.

There will be a moderated discussion with the audience afterwards. It will be open to the public but we welcome knowledgeable and experienced participation by local environmentalists to look at different facets of the issues and how we can meet it in our suburban watershed.

Co-sponsoring organizations will have no financial obligations but are encouraged to have representation to contribute their perspective from the land they stand on. Their only other obligation is to help promote the event.
