SUMMARY:A New England Food Vision: What can the Northeast accomplish by 2060?
DESCRIPTION:WRIGHT-LOCKE FARM SPEAKER SERIES 2017 \nMolly Anderson\, one of the authors\, joins us to speak about how New England can meet half of its food needs by the year 2060 through repurposing land\, making changes in our diets to increase health\, and increasing the number of farmers in our region. The vision is ambitious\, but feasible with organized effort to change the narrative we tell ourselves about food\, publicize the business advantages of local food\, and revitalize democracy in our region. \nMolly will tell us what the Food Solutions New England network is doing to bring all this about. Molly Anderson is the William R. Kenan\, Jr.\, Professor of Food Studies at Middlebury College in Vermont\, where she teaches about hunger\, fixing food systems\, food sovereignty\, and sustainable food systems. She collaborates on action and planning food systems at the state\, national\, regional\, and international scales. \nShe is a member of the Network Design Team of Food Solutions New England\, which promotes the New England Food Vision. You can learn more about the New England Food Vision \nJuly 19th – 7:30 PM (Q&A to Follow) \n  \n  \nMORE UPCOMING SPEAKERS THIS SUMMER AT WRIGHT-LOCKE FARM

SUMMARY:Getting Real: The Food/Environment Connection
DESCRIPTION:Film\, presentation\, and discussion \nDid you know…\nIt takes from 2\,500 to 6\,000 gallons of water to produce one pound of meat? At 2\,500 gallons\, that’s still 20 times the amount of water needed to grow a pound of wheat! Your food choices affect the environment! \nGuest speaker Jeffrey Cohan\, Jewish Veg Executive Director\, will lead an interactive discussion about the environmental impact of food production\, how we can reduce our environmental footprint through food choices\, and how this relates to Judaism. \nThis event is FREE and open to anyone of any faith. If you care about the environment\, please come see how the single most important action you can take is to change what you eat. We will also be sampling many delicious vegan foods. You don’t have to choose between fantastic food and the health of the environment! \nSponsored by ARCC – Acting to Reverse Climate Change\nShir Tzedek/Tikkun Olam \nTemple Shir Tikvah\, 34 Vine Street\, Winchester 01890\nFor more information\, please contact us at 617-721-6423
